Nak Boong Kim-Prism Folding Low Table

At Design Interviews

Interview with Nak Boong Kim : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Nak Boong Kim : Everyone expects tables to be flat-topped. I wanted to challenge this preconception. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Nak Boong Kim : The ideal size of a table depends on how many people are using it at that particular time. When it is not being used, ideally you want to be able to fold it away so that it does not take up so much space. I wanted to design something that is versatile enough for a variety of uses that can also be folded away when not needed. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Nak Boong Kim : I currently work in a small woodwork studio; small numbers can be made in that setting. I would consider leasing the production rights if a larger company with the capacity for a bigger production is interested. .
