Renovation of Dongpo
Renovation of Dongpo is an interior design project for a theater in Hangzhou, China. The theater opened in 1992 near West Lake and carried marks from many periods. The renovation works by subtraction, removing unneeded decoration while keeping traces of different times and returning the building to a simpler state. Beams, columns and equipment in the hall are reorganized to appear plain and orderly. Concrete fibreboard walls, black steel and soft lighting recall an ancient cave. The design covers 4150 square meters on three floors.
Renovation of Dongpo Theater by Xin Hu Yuting Jin was recognized as a creative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Renovation of Dongpo Theater earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design accolade that celebrates superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
