Island
Island is a drinking glass made for soju, a popular Korean liquor. The form of Island is inspired by the Korean islands Dokdo and Ulleungdo. The name of each island is engraved in Korean letters on the base, and the outer shape follows the lines of these letters. When the glass is placed upside down on the table, as is common in Korean drinking culture, the base is seen first and recalls an island floating on the sea. Island is hand crafted from unleaded crystal, a clear material that supports fine detail and is safe for people and the environment.
Island Glass by Jo Jhunghan has been highlighted as a creative illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Island Glass received the Golden A' Design Award in Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design in 2021. The A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which celebrates exceptional design of pots, pans, cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses, baking dishes, graters and more.
