Art Shield
Art Shield is a temporary pavilion designed to protect a public statue during winter. The pavilion surrounds the Vorosmarty monument in a central square of Budapest. Instead of the common plastic cover, a translucent structure keeps the monument visible to visitors. The steel frame and birch plywood roof were developed with parametric software, with the steel parts laser cut and welded and the roof shaped by computer controlled machines. A transparent plexiglass facade shields the marble from driving rain. The pavilion can be assembled, dismantled and stored quickly for reuse.
Art Shield Statue Conservation Pavilion by Hello Wood was identified as an outstanding representation of communication design by the A' Design Award. Art Shield Statue Conservation Pavilion earned the Silver A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2020. The A' Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program that rewards superior design of cultural heritage projects, cultural conversation, preservation, restoration and protection projects, heritage architecture and more.
