Moutai Liquor

Moutai

Moutai is a packaging design for a Chinese baijiu liquor. The box is the first to apply the pull-card changing pattern principle to a packaging structure. When a card is pulled, the printed illustration changes, revealing the twelve Chinese zodiac animals and mythical figures gathered for a feast in Maotai Town. The illustrations refer to traditional Chinese culture and aesthetics. The bottle is made with ceramic technology. Three-dimensional low-temperature embossed paper is used to keep the patterns faithful. The box measures 140 by 125 by 300 millimeters.

Moutai Liquor by Kai Liu Yu was featured as a creative example of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Moutai Liquor won the Bronze A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2020. The A' Packaging Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which honors outstanding design of bottles, boxes, cans, pouches, tubes, cartons, wrappers, bags and more.
