Half of the Mountain
Half of the Mountain is a homestay interior located in the Maoshan scenic area of Jintan, Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The design covers nearly 5000 square meters of building and interior space, set within a forest on a tea mountain. Traditional materials from the surroundings are used, including rammed earth, clay plaster, gravel, raw stone, timber, local bamboo, clay fired green tiles and black bricks. Guests can join tea picking, tea making and packaging activities. The intent is to present the local landscape, Taoist culture and craft traditions.
Half of the Mountain Homestay by Peng Zhang was highlighted as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Half of the Mountain Homestay won the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
