Coastline
Coastline is a table inspired by the rising sea levels caused by global warming. The tabletop is made of acrylic, also known as PMMA, and is shaped by high-temperature heating to suggest clear seawater. The supporting structure is made of michelia compressa and pine, and the wood represents the height of mountains. Hard wood was selected so that the structure would not deform during heating. The uneven edge recalls a coastline eroded by the sea, and the material combination allows light to pass through in layers. The table measures 350 mm in width, 650 mm in depth and 500 mm in height.
Coastline Table by Wu Yu-Han has been recognized as an outstanding representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Coastline Table was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2020. The A' Furniture Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design recognition program that celebrates outstanding design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
