Bamboo Art
Bamboo Art is a restaurant interior covering 855 square meters in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The design was inspired by the bamboo skewers used in barbecues. Grilles of thin lines in smoked black and light brown recall skewer patterns and create a calm contrast within a busy space. Local materials were selected instead of imported ones to reduce the emissions and pollution linked to air and sea freight. Uncoated galvanized steel, unpainted exhaust pipes, energy-saving lamps, a rough stone veneer wall and roof solar panels keep materials in their original state. Most materials are recyclable.
Bamboo Art Restaurant by Shih Hao Lien has been identified as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Bamboo Art Restaurant was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program that recognizes excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
