Baochao Hutong
Baochao Hutong is a renovated courtyard house located in a hutong district of Beijing. The courtyard measures about 12 square meters and has a long and narrow shape. Mirror glass is applied to the ground and the walls of the yard. The reflective surfaces make the small space appear larger and reflect the surrounding lanes, trees and sky. The damaged wooden structure was strengthened, and the facade was rebuilt as a glass curtain wall. The transparent facade brings daylight into the interior and allows views across the courtyard.
Baochao Hutong Invisible Yard by DAGA Architects has been selected as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Baochao Hutong Invisible Yard received the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which celebrates superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
