Light Up 13 Layer Remains Cultural Heritage

Light Up 13 Layer Remains

Light Up 13 Layer Remains is a public art lighting project for a former copper refinery in northern Taiwan. The mining site closed in 1973, and its basic structure was preserved. A color temperature of 2100K was chosen to suit the outer crust of the structure. Amber light inside recalls the fire used during refining. Luminance rises with each level, from 1 nit at the base to 6 nits at the upper levels, so the layers are clearly read. Nearby vegetation is lit at 3000K. In total, 365 luminaires in 15 angles and wattages were installed.

Light Up 13 Layer Remains Cultural Heritage by Taiwan Power Company has been recognized as a grand representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Light Up 13 Layer Remains Cultural Heritage was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2021. The A' Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design prize which celebrates excellent design of cultural heritage projects, cultural conversation, preservation, restoration and protection projects, heritage architecture and more.
