Selfors
Selfors is a house created through the rehabilitation of a modernist villa from the 1960s. The original villa was partly altered by a prefabricated addition in the 1980s. The new design respects the modernist character of the earlier building. The three-story house covers 200 square meters and is arranged around a central staircase that acts as a natural ventilation shaft between the floors. A glazed south facade collects sunlight. The original wood structure was reused, and a new facade and new windows were added. Sheltered outdoor spaces surround the house.
Selfors Housing by Hans-Petter Bjørnådal was identified as a creative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Selfors Housing was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award which honors exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
