Gaojia Garden
Gaojia Garden is a tea house and cultural space located in quiet woods by the canal under Gongchen Bridge in Hangzhou. The interior covers 1200 square metres and recalls the Republic of China era. A corridor at the entrance combines new and old elements to form an art and culture passage that displays cultural relics and tells the history of the canal. The design preserves original elements of the Nanhua Building and joins them with modern techniques. Stone, cloth, wood, metal and leather are used, and a background wall of layered silk with embroidery marks the foyer.
Gaojia Garden Urban Public Space by DDO design was identified as an innovative representation of communication design by the A' Design Award. Gaojia Garden Urban Public Space was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2022. The A' Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award that recognizes exceptional design of cultural heritage projects, cultural conversation, preservation, restoration and protection projects, heritage architecture and more.
