Joaquim
Joaquim is a folding screen designed for homes and other interiors. The piece works in three ways, as a room divider, a bookshelf and a mobile vertical garden. Three hinged sections unfold and retract, so the width can be adjusted to suit the room. The structure is made of tubular carbon steel with a black electrostatic paint finish, and the twenty-one oval shelves are made of pink peroba wood. Reclaimed steel and wood from demolished houses were used to limit environmental impact. The frame and the shelves were made by hand by skilled locksmiths and cabinetmakers.
Joaquim Folding Screen by PEDRO GALASO was highlighted as an innovative illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Joaquim Folding Screen received the Silver A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2022. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which celebrates superior design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
