The Porthole
The Porthole is a wall light inspired by the window of an airplane cabin. The light is controlled by sliding the shade panel upward. The lamp grows brighter as the shade opens, and reaches full brightness when the panel is completely open. The familiar form makes the operation easy to understand without instruction. The LED panel is coated with sodium peroxide nanoparticles that scatter light and separate different wavelengths, giving an effect similar to sunlight passing through the atmosphere. The wall light measures 225 by 300 by 55 millimetres.
The Porthole Wall Light by Harry-Hongwei Yang was recognized as an outstanding representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award. The Porthole Wall Light won the Iron A' Design Award in Lighting Products and Fixtures Design in 2022. The A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that honors exceptional design of chandeliers, pendant lights, wall sconces, table lamps, floor lamps, outdoor lights, recessed lights, track lights and more.
