The Glimmer
The Glimmer is a tape art installation applied to a train in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Nearly 110 square meters of glow tape cover the outside of the train, forming murals that show the sea, the ports, the mountains and the buildings of the city. The tape absorbs sunlight during the day and emits light at night, so the train becomes a moving lantern without electrical power. The interior is decorated with luminous foils and changing lights. The installation was created for the Taiwan Lantern Festival and applies several tape art techniques.
The Glimmer Taped Train by Fundesign.tv was identified as an exceptional representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Glimmer Taped Train received the Silver A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which honors excellent design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
