U Shaped
U Shaped is a residential house built in Tottori, Japan in 2020. The parts facing the road are closed as walls, and the windows there are placed in a high position to block views from outside. The living room sits at the center of the plan, with an open ceiling and a large glass wall that opens to a courtyard. The kitchen, dining room, bedroom and children's room are arranged around the living room, so family members can sense each other. The exterior combines wood, tiles and plastered surfaces. The wooden structure follows a passive design with improved insulation.
U Shaped Residential House by Yusuke Tanaka was recognized as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. U Shaped Residential House won the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which rewards excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
