Starry Night
Starry Night is a glowing orchid created through a biotechnology process. The orchid glows in the dark after high-entropy oxides that comply with European Union standards are absorbed through the leaf veins. No genetic modification is used. The petals show a designed pattern of light at night without any additional light source, recalling a starry sky. Several luminous colors are displayed. The plant measures 250 mm in width, 250 mm in length and 500 mm in height. The intent is to offer a calm and relaxing viewing experience.
Starry Night Orchids by Yen-Hsun Su has been recognized as an exceptional example of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Starry Night Orchids received the Bronze A' Design Award in Product Engineering and Technical Design in 2023. The A' Product Engineering and Technical Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates excellent design of blueprints, prototypes, schematics, CAD models, technical drawings, machine designs, electronic systems, structural plans and more.
