Kaffihus Hringur
Kaffihus Hringur is a coffee shop located near the Hverfjall Crater in Iceland. The circular building is inspired by the form of the tuff cone volcano and serves hikers before and after the climb. An open courtyard with an Icelandic garden sits at the center. Four quadrants hold the coffee bar, restrooms, an exhibition space and a covered observation terrace with views of Lake Myvatn. The modular wood frame is clad in charred dark gray cedar. Geothermal heat pumps, triple-pane glass and rainwater capture allow off-grid operation with minimal staff.
Kaffihus Hringur Coffee Shop by Yuting Zhang was featured as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Kaffihus Hringur Coffee Shop received the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023.
