White Box
White Box is a private residence built on a narrow site measuring four meters wide and twenty meters deep. The interior is modeled after a small museum and has an inorganic yet elegant character. Privacy is protected by reducing the number of windows, while a skylight above the stairway hall brings natural light into the family library, the living area and the ground floor. All walls are painted white, so light is diffused even through small gaps. Indirect line lighting on the walls and ceiling adds depth, and doors that reach the ceiling make the long space appear larger.
White Box House by TOMOHIRO ARAKI was highlighted as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. White Box House won the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2024. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade which rewards excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
