Wayang Golek
Wayang Golek is a graphic poster series based on the traditional Indonesian puppet theatre of the same name. The series presents the puppets through bold colours, intricate patterns and strong typography drawn from Indonesian art. The illustrations were created as vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator, using colour blocking for vibrant hues and detailed pattern work for the motifs. The digital format allows the artwork to be scaled and shared across screens without loss of quality. The aim is to renew interest in Wayang Golek among younger audiences.
Wayang Golek Cultural Communication by Mengyao GUO has been selected as an innovative representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Wayang Golek Cultural Communication was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2024. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design award which rewards outstanding design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
