X-Space
X-Space is a fire escape window designed for residential rooms where the passageway may be blocked during a fire. The design is a redesign of the window frame with a rotational structure holder made of five parts that interact by mechanical principles. Turning the handle 180 degrees anticlockwise triggers the alarm and notifies firefighters. Opening the window then forms a space outside the wall. A fire resisting shutter hidden in the holder axis is pulled out to isolate fire and smoke while people wait for rescue.
X-Space Window by Du Heli was identified as an innovative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. X-Space Window earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Social Design in 2017. The A' Social Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design prize that rewards superior design of community projects, social campaigns, public installations, educational programs, sustainable initiatives, healthcare solutions, inclusive design, cultural interactions and more.
