Hiyama
Hiyama is a Japanese restaurant interior designed around the ideas of nature, Zen and the traditional Japanese house. A bar near the entrance serves as a welcome area where guests can sit and wait with drinks. A bamboo path with mist creates the feeling of an outdoor garden. The dining areas are treated as separate houses, seen through the bamboo. A pavilion stands at the end of the path, followed by a main hall placed between a wooden veranda and a balcony facing the harbor. Each room is built as an individual structure with beams and columns.
Hiyama Restaurant by Alvan Suen has been identified as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Hiyama Restaurant received the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which rewards excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
