The Sea Refuses No River
The Sea Refuses No River is a Teppanyaki restaurant interior located in the central area of Shanghai. The interior area is 478 square meters and the landscape area is 800 square meters. The design joins modern lines with traditional Chinese wood structure, recalling the iron window frames of Shikumen houses. Materials include copper imitating stainless steel, Hainan volcanic rock, oak wood veneer, gray marble and soft fabrics. A handmade wall carpet lines the aisle. Curved walls and a stepped ceiling suggest the movement of waves.
The Sea Refuses No River Restaurant by Alex Jiang has been recognized as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. The Sea Refuses No River Restaurant received the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition that honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
