The Intelligent Eggshell

The Intelligent Eggshell Lamp is a porcelain nightlight that combines hand-made eggshell porcelain with voice control. The shade is formed through more than forty working procedures, repeated fettling and carving, and three firings, giving a wall thickness within 1 mm. Carved points, lines and surfaces glow like a night sky when the lamp is lit. The tapered housing is curved to sit in the hand and resists tipping. The light is switched on and off by voice, so the hands stay free. The design aims to revive a traditional folk craft.

The Intelligent Eggshell Porcelain Nightlight by Chunlong Xiang has been selected as an innovative illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. The Intelligent Eggshell Porcelain Nightlight won the Silver A' Design Award in Lighting Products and Fixtures Design in 2020. The A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program that rewards superior design of chandeliers, pendant lights, wall sconces, table lamps, floor lamps, outdoor lights, recessed lights, track lights and more.
