Absinthe
Absinthe is a stage design created for a theatrical play about physics, matter and psychology. The set is built around an oval stage that represents time and can also be read as a galaxy or a continuous loop. Dark reflective panels covered with splattered paint suggest a vast and mysterious universe. A custom laser light sound visualiser allows sound to be seen, because the laser beams are distorted by the frequency of the voices of the actors. Every angle of the stage was tested so the performers could walk, run and jump safely.
Absinthe Production Design by Vivian Lu has been selected as an outstanding illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Absinthe Production Design was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design in 2020. The A' Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design prize that rewards superior design of choreography, dance moves, theatrical sets, dance costumes, stage lighting, opera props, concert stages, ballet scenery, puppetry designs, performance installations and more.
