Magnesium Alloy
Magnesium is a controllable hydro-reactive magnesium alloy developed for medical use. The alloy is composed of magnesium, zinc and calcium, elements that the human body can absorb. Adjusting the mixing entropy of the alloy allows the degradation rate to be controlled precisely, while corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are improved. The material degrades slowly and evenly until it is absorbed and carried away by body fluids. The alloy is used in a single-use hemostatic clip that needs no second surgery for removal. No additional surface treatment is required.
Magnesium Alloy Controllable Hydro Reactive by Tung-Lin Tsai was recognized as a creative example of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Magnesium Alloy Controllable Hydro Reactive earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design in 2021. The A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design accolade which rewards excellent design of stethoscopes, wheelchairs, defibrillators, MRI machines, surgical instruments, prosthetics, ultrasound devices, pacemakers and more.
