The House of Breathing Void
House of the Breathing Void is a residential house organized around a central atrium. The atrium acts as an open void where air and light circulate freely, forming the environmental core of the home. The atrium also creates a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. The house follows bioclimatic principles, with a clear southern orientation that captures sunlight, supports passive heating and encourages natural ventilation. The same orientation gives the building a diagonal form, a response that is both spatial and climatic.
The House of Breathing Void Residential Home by Sylvia Georgiadou and Katerina Vagianou was identified as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The House of Breathing Void Residential Home received the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2026. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that celebrates excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
