Xicang Market
Xicang Market is a book that documents a weekly street market in Xi'an, China. The book records the objects used as stalls, the ways of displaying goods, the handwritten signs and the relationship between people and objects. The design is kept minimal so that the material is simply presented. The book is divided into eight chapters: location, market, signs, stalls, oral accounts, goods, price and vendors. Each chapter is independent and restores part of the market scene. Paper similar to the advertising flyers found at the market was chosen for one chapter.
Xicang Market Book by DONG QI was recognized as a grand representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Xicang Market Book was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design in 2019. The A' Print and Published Media Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design prize which honors superior design of brochures, posters, magazines, catalogs, flyers, business cards, billboards, books and more.
